The area code for the entire island of Jamaica is 876. Regardless of Kingston, Ocho Rios, Port Antonio, Montego Bay or Negril the area code is the same.

Jamaica has a warm tropical climate with an average high temperature of 92F. Days are sunny with an occasional thunderstorm.

Medical Assistance

Many hotels and resorts are equipped with a medical staff. You may need a letter from your doctor if you take a specific medication and need to refill.

The first number you should dial in case of emergency is 119. If there is a fire dial 110.

Currency

There is a currency exchange booth located in both international airports as well as at local banks. You may even find a currency exchange in your hotel or resort as well to help you. The currency in Jamaica is the Jamaican dollar or JMD.

Water

The water is safe to drink in Jamaica. Bottled mountain spring water is also sold at every convenience store and local merchants.

Transportation

Taxi is the best form of transportation around town. Look for red license plates, which indicates an officially licensed taxi. Ask the price before leaving.

Tipping

As advised with Jamaica villas, tipping about 10 to 15 percent is advised. This is expected in hotels, villas, and resorts. Tipping may not be allowed at all-inclusive resorts.
